Getting Back on Track

Okay, today's off to a much better start. Easy to do when I remember I have to work and also get groceries.

I do want to try and go as many days as I can without buying groceries because I have a tendency to...over stock the fridge. >.> Cooking just gets me so excited. I bought some apples that were on sale, and sliced mushrooms that I should cook soon. I want to spend some time finding fun ways to cook them.

As for worrying things on my mind, we're tighter on money than ever with having to do this move so early in the year. Last year we planned to do it in the Fall, or closer to the Winter. But escalating family situations necessitated an early move. We definitely made the right decision. Now it's just about keeping the finances okay and making sure we're still working towards our goals. I also want to restart some of my attempts at making a side income that I haven't been able to really do for the past 3 years living with the boyfriend's family. Streaming was a really good source of side income a while ago and while I definitely think my time as a streamer has passed, a few bucks a month wouldn't hurt. Plus I miss just being able to gab for hours while gaming. It's fun, haha.

Regardless, with money and work more in mind I'm going to add a work section to the blog to talk about the things I do at my job. I'm not someone that likes to talk about work so it'll be short, or even missing from the blog most days. But it would be nice for me to remember what I was doing when reading back through old blog posts. Plus writing it down helps me get my head in order.

The last thing I'll say is that a bunch of important packages are coming in today, but not our bed!! It's still at least a week away from arriving when I checked the status on it last night. I'm glad we really like our expensive inflatable mattress, at least. I hope that the actual mattress that comes in is loads better. I think it'll really help me settle into the space.

Work

Today I need to do a compliance training video through our HR platform, meet with my favorite Product Manager about upcoming releases and also past ones I may have missed while I was out, and I also hope to make some progress on the Help Center transition I'm in charge of.

In simple terms, I'm migrating all of our support-oriented articles to a new website/platform that should be much easier to use, read, and navigate than our current one. I hope to have it done by Giving Tuesday, which is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It's a "holiday" only important to nonprofits since it's apparently the time of year where people donate the most amount of money. I don't really understand why, to be honest, lol. But it is always the holiday we treat the most important at this job, so having the Help Center ready by then is my deadline. I think having an early first phase of it should definitely be possible, at least. Then our team can really dig into providing better support to donors and nonprofits.

As a part of that project I'm learning about Information Architecture. It's surprisingly interesting and even handy for my own indie web life. It feels like information I didn't know I needed. How to organize information, make it easier to find and read, and making it accessible are all topics that Information Architecture touches on. So once the move is really finished and the boyfriend and I are back to having boring days, I plan to really dig into learning this at work. I think it might even facilitate a promotion or better paying opportunity elsewhere! At the very least it looks like it'll be more engaging and useful than what I do now, and a valuable skill to add to my skill set.

Cooking

For Breakfast I made some peanut butter and banana sandwiches. It was my first time adding honey to them and toasting them with butter, so obviously that made them way more delicious. I could only eat half my sandwich, though! This is a great "recession recipe," I think. Provided bananas and peanut butter remain easy to obtain since I can only make the bread myself, lol. These sandwiches use my favorite oatmeal bread recipe, which paired super well. I just gotta get better at slicing a loaf, haha.

One of the packages that came in was my new griddle, which is a self-indulgent purchase I made to help me enjoy my new life. I couldn't resist cooking with it right away, so I did! Cooked up some chicken thighs and zucchini that were going to get old soon and mixed the zucchini up with some mushrooms I sauteed in garlic. A simple dinner, but I gotta say it was yummy. The boyfriend really liked it, too!

Thinking About Tomorrow

Friday, omg!! This weekend won't be too restful as we gotta go to Costco for some additional stuff. But I'll feel so much better once it's all purchased and in our apartment.
