My First Real Weekend
(I wrote this blog post for Saturday, May 9th, but I forgot to hit publish!)
After all those weeks of planning and stress and waiting, today feels like the first real weekend in a minute. We do still have to go out to Costco with a friend later to purchase some much needed stuff, and get a membership card. But I'm hoping that goes smoothly and doesn't take too much time. Hades will not appreciate being left alone for that long. I'm just hoping it's not a big deal. He's going to take a lot of time to adjust here, unfortunately.
That said, I'm going to remain focused on the positives.
Todos
- Get a calendar going again with the boyfriend so I don't lose track of important dates.
Delete all of my current redeems on Twitch so I can start fresh.- Do a stream before the week is over because I miss it!
- Read up about Pizzas and make something from the TMNT book before May is over
Comics

When I get back into reading my comics regularly, which will happen well after we get everything unpacked and in its place, this will become a regular section of the blog. But for now I just want to show off the really cool merch I got of my favorite queer horror comic series called Something Is Killing the Children. James Tynion IV is the writer and he's been killing it lately. I do wonder how much work he can put out before he burns out, though. That man writes way too much. But I love that he has split ownership of his comic with the artist Werther Dell'edera. I don't think I see many other comic writers treating their artists with this much respect and profit share. But in this case it makes sense. I see Werther's art style as part of the DNA of the comic series. I'm going to be enjoying this merch for years, provided we take good care of them!
Baking

Today I made the cornbread recipe from the first Final Fantasy 14 book. There were a few adjustments I needed to make, which I'm finding is a little typical for the recipes in this book. But they were minor and following the weight descriptions helped it turn out totally fine.
Since I'm still learning to use my new countertop oven I ended up burning the top a little. But it didn't make any difference to the taste, which luckily was awesome. This was the best cornbread I've made yet. I think the key is to mix the corn flour with the ingredients before adding in the flour. The recipe book doesn't say to do that, but all paste cornbread recipes I've read said to do this to avoid overworking the batter. If you mix it too much with the flour, the gluten will overdevelop and make the cornbread too dense or tough, or so they say. But I think it did make a difference here!
Back From Costco
We had one of our friends in the neighborhood accompany us to our first time at this Costco. He was a huge help with his moral support because I think I would have been freaking out more than I was without him there. And he got some necessary shopping done too, it seems like!
I have to say that despite the huge and dense crowds (the Saturday before Mother's Day is not the time to be at a Costco, we learned) we managed to do a bunch of really important shopping, get the boyfriend his membership card, and make it back relatively quickly to find that Hades was totally okay! Nothing in our apartment was destroyed, he wasn't howling when we got to the door, and he also didn't look like he was sweating up a storm from anxious running around the apartment. Although we can't be sure how much noise he must have made while we were away. Maybe a dog cam is in order for the future, just to be sure, lol.
Thinking About Tomorrow
I'm so glad my anxiety made this whole Costco trip worse than it was. But now I'm exhausted beyond belief. I hope to have a nice and comforting evening with the boyfriend so we can start Sunday off super well and get some relaxation and "us" time in before the next work week starts.
