The Week Feels So Long Already
Now that we've somewhat settled into the apartment I'm slowly restarting a lot of my hobbies and habits, but that's made writing about them pretty difficult! Some days there's nothing to say, other days there's a lot. I'll try and keep it to the important stuff while I continue to get settled.
Work
My year long project has started in earnest now and it's taking all that I have not to feel overwhelmed about it already. Yesterday was a lot of planning and meetings, along with making a huge kickoff post in the company channel. And now I'm working on having some deliverables finished before the end of the week. The project is going to move in 5 phases before needing to finish by November 20th. I think it's possible, but it is requiring me to switch to Project Manager mode again to help keep people organized, including myself. And to help my boss communicate how the project is going with leadership. This has taken a lot of my brain power already.
Chess

The boyfriend and I have gotten back into playing Chess and it feels more interesting than ever. I got us these scorebooks to help us keep track of games, and mainly as a way to force myself to learn proper notation and learn the squares on the board. It was less hard than I thought it would be, but I know it's going to take about 5 more games before the board state feels actually comfortable for me to think about from just letters and numbers alone. I hope we can keep up games on a regular schedule because Chess gets so interesting and engaging when you're not thinking about winning or losing.
Comics

Hawk and I have been reading through Soul Eater now that we have all of the Perfect editions and I'm glad we are. The anime was always one of my favorites growing up, but I knew that because it finished before the manga was done it went off the rails with the plot. So now I get to really see how this story ends!! And revisiting a lot of the earlier scenes as manga is already fun.
Hate all the sexualization of the girl characters, though. Atsushi Okubo is definitely the kind of guy that Hayao Miyazaki meant when he complained about manga creators.
Stretch

Back on track with stretching! And it feels as good as always.
Baking
I started making pizzas!! I made two, and they were fine but ugly and not totally done. I'll take pictures of them starting with the next two, which I hope to do this week or next week as I gotta practice them more before the friends we're hosting show up next month.
Tekken 8
I've been putting in a lot of time in Tekken and Strive, but it's felt really good to be making the progress in Tekken that I have. Something that's really helped is that someone I see as a great player recently had discounts on his coaching sessions, so I purchased a few and they have been really illuminating. I find that I learn a lot in just an hour, and even though I haven't been able to put everything I learn into practice I feel a lot more comfortable with my gameplay and my understanding of the game. I had my last session today, but I might purchase a few more before his sale is up since I want to learn as much as I can. One of the things he's told me is that Tekken is very much a hidden knowledge game. A lot of it is obscure and just learned through trial, error, and losing. So getting that knowledge from him feels like it makes my losses a lot easier to handle. Knowledge takes time to learn and put into practice. Now that I have some idea of what knowledge I'm missing, I feel like playing better is possible for me. It felt like a ton of guessing before.
Today during my coaching session I learned:
- The combo I can do is more useful than I thought, and I could be using it in way more situations. I don't have to spend time learning new combos. However
- I do need a low parry combo
- I do need to learn KBD but there is an easier version, if I want. But I might just do the hard thing and learn it proper.
- I learned how to do mental stack training and learned a lot about Kazuya's jab strings in the process
- Sidestep left is a weakness for Kazuya
Thinking About Tomorrow
I need to make some stressful calls, and get a lot done at work to prepare for next week. I'm also going to start strength training again. I think my energy levels are finally at a good point to pick that back up.
Dates I'm Looking Forward To
